THE HUMILITY OF A CHILD (PART 2)

In this Quiet-time series, we shall study the various characteristics of humility as exhibited by children. The Word of God encourages us to be as “little ones” to inherit the kingdom of God; denoting humility and sincere obedience in our pursuit of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and our relationship with our brethren.

Scripture: Proverbs 13: 10

“Only by PRIDE cometh contention…..”

Proverbs 13: 10

1.      2. When you are humble as a child, you sit quietly and listen to instructions and teachings. When you lose this humility, you no longer sit quietly and listen to instructions, teachings, and guidance.

                                         “Only by PRIDE cometh contention…..”

Proverbs 13: 10

When you are humble like a child, you allow yourself to be led. You are guidable, malleable, and “leadable”. When you lose this humility you do not want to be led, or taught by anyone. You want to be independent. Your pride makes you stiff and independent. You take great pride in claiming independence.

Children sit quietly and receive instructions in the classroom. Grown-ups can gather them in groups and teach them. People resent being put in a group when they are filled with pride. They resent having to be part of little groups that are being taught. “I am not a small boy,” they say in their hearts. “I do not see why I should attend that meeting. Who is that bible study leader and why should I listen to his ideas?”

If you want to be humble, decide to be someone who can be gathered and organized alongside others. Decide to be someone who can be taught and trained in new things. What a blessing will come over to you as you walk in humility!
