In this series we will look at mastering your contentment and how to deal with the spirt of discontentment.
....for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content:
Philippians 4:12
The spirit of discontentment.
Discontentment is what caused the kings of Israel to fall into error God warned them not to go grasping after many extra things. Similarly, God is warning us not to multiply worldly things unto our lives.
But HE SHALL NOT MULTIPLY HORSES TO HIMSELF, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he should multiply horses: forasmuch as the Lord hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.
NEITHER SHALL HE MULTIPLY WIVES TO HIMSELF, that his heart turn not away: NEITHER SHALL HE GREATLY MULTIPLY TO HIMSELF SILVER AND GOLD.
Deuteronomy 17:14-17
When you have the spirit of contentment, the desire for all these things goes and your love is turned towards the Lord. Then you set your affection on things above and desire the will of God and the presence of God more than anything else. With the spirit of contentment, you are then happy to get along with whatever basic things are available.
