THE FIRST DETERMINANT: SPEED - PART 7

THE FIRST DETERMINANT: SPEED - PART 7
Scriptures: Ecclesiastes 9:11, 1 Kings 19:19-21
Topic: Speed Determines If You Will Be Anointed

"I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all."
Ecclesiastes 9:11

The determinants are the characteristics and the virtues that determine the outcome of everything you do. Every area of life is therefore affected by determinants. Both spiritual and non-spiritual things are governed by determinants. In this series of our Quiet Time we will study in depth how speed governs our lives

7. SPEED DETERMINES IF YOU WILL BE ANOINTED.

"So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him. AND HE LEFT THE OXEN, AND RAN AFTER ELIJAH, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee? And he returned back from him, and TOOK A YOKE OF OXEN, AND SLEW THEM, AND BOILED THEIR FLESH with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him."
1 Kings 19:19-21

There was no delay in Elisha’s response to Elijah. Elisha ran after Elijah! Elisha did not walk slowly when he was going to see Elijah. He ran! Elisha did not tell Elijah that he would call him later. Speed determines whether you will be anointed. Elisha’s speed in responding to the call of God qualified him to receive the anointing. Elisha instantly turned away from secular work and slaughtered his valuable oxen. He instantly made himself jobless and ready for the work of God.

Today, many people delay in obeying the call of God. They hesitate! They will ask for a special meeting to discuss whether the call to ministry could be looked at again! They put brakes on the call of God. They explain how they would have to do their Master’s degree and their PhD before answering the call of God! “We will be ready for the call of God in a few years’ time”.
