The Mysterious Will of God (Cont’d)

 Scripture: Ephesians 1: 9

In this series of our Quiet Time, we shall examine the art of hearing from God so that we may walk in His Perfect Will for us all the days of our lives. The Perfect Will of God creates positive outcomes in our lives as believers.

“Having made known unto us THE MYSTERY OF HIS WILL, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself”.

Ephesians 1: 9

The perfect will of God is mysterious, to say the least. Following the will of God can make you look odd and weird. But you will not shy away from the perfect will of God if you understand that the will of God is essentially mysterious in its nature.

1.      The mystery that doing nothing on God’s instructions, can give you greater results than doing something

Mysteriously, the perfect will of God can mean that you should stay put and do nothing. It is difficult to do nothing when you are full of life and energy. The mysterious will of God is shown by David’s obedience to not build the temple.

By obeying God and doing nothing to build a temple, he allowed his son to build the world-famous Solomon’s temple. Up until today, the building that David did not build forms part of the news and is a major focus of world history. Is it not amazing how great things can be accomplished by doing nothing when God says “ do nothing?”

And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the Lord, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in”.

1 Chronicles 17: 3-4

2.      The mystery that losing can lead to gaining

“ For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it”.

Mathew 16: 25

Anyone who wants to gain something does everything he can to prevent himself from losing. Yet, here comes Jesus declaring that losing your life is the way to gaining it. How much more mysterious can the will of God be?

3.      The mystery that doing the will of God makes you close to God

Anyone who does the will of God becomes close to the Lord. I once spoke to a brother who was worried that he would not see me because I was sending him to a faraway country. I said to him, “I have noticed that people who go on the mission field are closer to me than those who stay back home”. I often wondered why I became closer to people who were far away. The answer is simple. They were doing what I had asked them to do. You always become closer to somebody who is doing what you want.

Jesus said, “For whoever does the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother!” Mark 3:35, NASB
