Scripture: Malachi 3: 17-18
Topic: It is a great thing to serve the Lord
(Part 3)
In this series of our Quiet Time, we study the
reasons why serving God is a great thing. God has special privileges for those
who are enlisted in His work and do His bidding on earth. As we go out and win
souls, these privileges are due to us in Jesus name.
“And they shall be
mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels;
and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Then
shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him
that serveth God and him that serveth him not.”
Malachi 3: 17-18
1.
It is a great thing to serve the Lord because there
will be a difference between those who serve the Lord and those who serve Him
not
Malachi is famous for his warnings on tithing.
But I think there is an even more serious warning from Malachi is for us all.
Please take note of Malachi’s warning to those who do not serve the Lord: God
will cause a big difference to arise between those who serve and those who do
not serve.
There will always be a difference between those
who serve the Lord and those who do not serve the Lord. Jesus told us about a
certain man who had two sons. One of the sons chose to serve in the house and
the others chose to leave. One decided that it was a good idea to be a servant
in his father’s house and work humbly in the fields. Today, we can choose to
work humbly in our Father’s harvest fields or we can choose to go out on a
frolic of our own. We can choose to follow fantasies and the worldly ideas of
men. I choose to be a servant of the Lord and work in His field. The promise is
clear! You will return to see a difference between those who serve the Lord and
those who serve Him not!
The story of the prodigal son is the best
example of this principle. In the end, there was a big difference between the
one who served in the house and the one who decided not to serve in the
father’s house. Please notice the stark differences that arise between those
who serve the Lord and those who do not serve Him.
Malachi is not the only prophet who warns about
the difference that will arise between those who serve and those who do not
serve. The prophet Isaiah also warns us that serious differences will arise
between those who serve God and those who do not.
