THE DANGERS OF SELF-CENTREDNESS AND SELF-PROMOTION -PART 3

THE DANGERS OF SELF-CENTREDNESS AND SELF-PROMOTION
Scriptures: Genesis 11:4-9
Topic: The Dangers of Self-Centredness and Self Promotion - Part 3

In this series of our Quiet Time we we study the dangers of Self-Centredness and Self Promotion. It is time to stop focusing on "self" and start focusing on "others".

3. Self-promotion caused the fall of Babel.

"And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; AND LET US MAKE US A NAME, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the Lord did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth."
Genesis 11:4-9

The men of Babel also wanted to create a name for themselves. They wanted to be famous and powerful. It is a nice thing to be promoted. But self-promotion is not the way! Self-promotion is an evil thing. Don’t try to promote yourself!

Self-promotion caused the destruction and fall of the city of Babel. The men of Babel earnestly sought to raise themselves up and make themselves a great name.

After this study, you must decide to set aside all your ambitions to make yourself great.  Look to God to make you great. You cannot do it by yourself. Promotion does not come from the east or the west. Promotion comes from God. Let God lift you up!

Think about others and God will think about you!

"For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south."
Psalm 75:6

  2. What a key!! As I think about others, God will think about me. I will look to God to make me great and desist from making myself great.
