THE SECRET OF BEING IN THE SPIRIT
Scripture: Revelation 1:10-11, 4:1-2
Topic: The Secret of Being in the Spirit

"I WAS IN THE SPIRIT ON THE LORD’S DAY, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea."
Revelation 1:10-11

"After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. And IMMEDIATELY I WAS IN THE SPIRIT: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne."
Revelation 4:1-2

John was in the spirit on the Lord’s day. I have always wondered what to do to be in the spirit. Why would I want to be in the spirit like John? When John was in the spirit he saw things that no eye has ever seen. Who would not want to be in the spirit and have a mighty revelation like John did? 

John was in the spirit and he saw things that no eye has ever seen. It was simply being in the spirit on the Lord’s Day that resulted in his seeing and hearing all these wonderful things. Today, if you want to also see such marvellous things you must somehow be in the spirit.

Being in the spirit is a divinely-granted experience. No one can force himself to be in the spirit. However, you can decide to be spiritual, which is the next best thing to being in the spirit. 

Most of us are in the flesh. Most of us are hardly ever spiritual. You must learn to become and to stay spiritual. As you remain spiritual you can expect to actually enter the spirit. To become spiritual and to stay spiritual you must simply avoid carnality. 

Carnality is well defined in the Bible. Carnality is the fleshly manifestation of the human being. Being carnal is the same as being non-spiritual. The flesh and the Spirit are contrary to each other. When you are in the flesh you are not in the Spirit and when you are in the Spirit you are not in the flesh.

"For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and THESE ARE CONTRARY THE ONE TO THE OTHER: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would."
Galatians 5:17

The apostle Paul was able to identify unspiritual people very easily. As soon as he noticed envy, strife, confusion and division, he knew that he was dealing with an unspiritual bunch. They were carnal! Carnality is envy, strife, division, confusion and the like. To walk in the flesh is to be out of the spirit. To walk in the spirit is therefore to not walk in the flesh. 

"And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ."
1 Corinthians 3:1

To walk in the spirit: It is to walk far away from adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness and revellings. 

To operate in the spirit: To operate in the spirit, speak in the spirit. Speaking in tongues is speaking in the spirit. Read it for yourself! Stay in the spirit by speaking in tongues. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. (1 Corinthians 14:2). 

To exit the spirit: All you need to do is to walk in adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness and revellings.

    Lord thank You for this wisdom. Give me the grace to be strong in the spirit, overcome carnality, become spiritual and remain spiritual always.

    What a word!!! Being in the spirit is a divinely granted experience. No one can force himself to be in the spirit. Lord give me the grace to be and remain spiritual that I may actually enter the spirit and help me avoid carnality
