PUT YE IN THE SICKLE
Scripture: Joel 3:13-14
Topic: Put Ye in The Sickle

“Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.”

                                                                                                                                                    Joel 3:13-14

A sickle is a single-handed agricultural tool designed for harvesting, or reaping. The prophet Joel knowing the use of this tool implores the believer to employ his sickle for the purpose of reaping the harvest. The design of this particular harvesting tool itself is a message, it is a single-handed tool; therefore, we are talking about the single-mindedness of the believer in his approach to the work of harvesting souls. In this case we are not talking about group evangelism but an individual initiative to bring in the harvest of souls. 

The harvest is ripe; the harvest is ready. We are not waiting for souls to be ready, they are ready. What must the believer do? The answer is, “get down you down; for the press is full’. The press is where the harvest is gathered. Therefore, we must have our members go down to the press, where the harvest is gathered. Schools, our communities, markets, football fields, leisure parks, homes, these plus many other places are the press of the believer.

Let us understand what is at stake. Multitudes! Multitudes!! Dear believer multitudes are at stake. They are in the valley of decision. There must be someone calling out to them to come up out of the valley to their Saviour Jesus Christ. Beloved, see the multitudes in the valley of decision, and allow your heart to beat passionately for them. We all once stood in the same valley of decision till someone came and showed us what the best decision was, accepting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. We must develop a sense of urgency to help those in the valley of decision. The prophet urges urgency because the day of the Lord is near. The day of the Lord is that great day of judgement. Those in the valley of decision who never made it out of the valley by making a decision for Christ stand in DANGER of judgement. Dear Christian, will you just stand and watch?
