STRENGTH
Scripture: 1 Samuel 30:6
Topic: Strength
“….. and David strengthened himself in the Lord.”
1 Samuel 30: 6
This verse tells us that King David, the man whom the bible describes as a ‘man after God’s own heart,’ strengthened himself in the Lord his God in a season of great adversity and turmoil.
Worn out from the war, David returns to discover that the Amalekites had attacked their land and made their wives, sons and daughters’ part of the spoils of war. Instead of shouts of joy, the valiant men were faced with pain of the worst kind and devastation in the wake of their external victory.
“….. each one was bitter n spirit because of his sons and daughters.”
1 Samuel 30:6
We see that neither his personal loss (his two wives had been captured) nor the near revolt of his men could turn his attention away from his Lord. This is the example to emulate as believers in the face of adversity and the ensuing internal turmoil. To have Christ is to have an inexhaustible source of divine strength.
“...and I heard a voice saying in heaven, now is come salvation and strength...”
Revelation 12:10
“The Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid?”
Psalm 27:1
Why then do we have believers in the church who are constantly plagued with worry, suffer hopelessness, despair and confusion in the face of life’s challenges? The example of David is to fix your eyes on a Saviour who has never failed. It is to be persuaded as the Apostle Paul in the book of Romans of the Saviour immovable Presence in our lives despite our ever-changing circumstances. To have the Lord is to be carried high above our present storm
“ You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”
Isaiah 26:3
In what or in whom do you look to in times of adversity? Is the Lord your strength?
Ask the Lord to help your unbelief.
