BE IMMOVABLE

Scripture: I Corinthians 15:58
Topic: Be Immovable

Therefore my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour is not in vain in the Lord”
I Corinthians 15:58

In this scripture, Apostle Paul is encouraging us as believers to be strong and faithful in the things of God. The Lord desires that we remain faithful throughout our lives.

Moreover it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful”.
1 Corinthians 4:2

To be immovable is to be resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering. It can also be defined as the character of staying the same for a long time and not changing quickly or unexpectedly. This is the character that Apostle Paul encourages all believers to possess. An unwavering conviction in our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The scripture instructs that in the ‘work of the Lord’, remain the same for a long time and do not change quickly or unexpectedly. This, however, is not the character we see in modern-day believers who were zealous in their youth only to abandon the walk of faith as they got on in age. The most common situation is believers allowing the pressures of life to choke the word of God and the zeal to serve Him from their lives. Many who profess to be Christians often live lives of full compromise and conformity to worldly beliefs and ideals. Living lives described in Ecclesiastes as “a chasing of the wind”.

In Cor 15:58, the Apostle Paul teaches that we who profess Him ought to always be found in Him, firmly grounded despite the changing seasons of our lives.

“…you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:13

The scripture concludes by saying that we ought to know that our “labour is not in vain in the Lord”. To know means that we as believers should have a clear and complete idea of our possession of a reward due to our labour. To know can also be defined as one perceiving something as fact or truth. Our labour for our Lord and Saviour is not empty or useless. There is a reward due to all who faithfully and diligently expend themselves for the sake of the Kingdom.

“And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”
Revelation 22: 12-14

Could the reason we work for him without zeal be that we do not know that there is a promise of a reward for our labor? Could our ignorance of this fact be the reason we stop without fulfilling the assignment given to us?

Beloved Child of God, serve the Lord with a deep conviction that the work you accomplish for His Glory has eternal value and will continue to matter for eternity. Put greater emphasis on the work of the Lord instead of work that will cease to have value the moment you depart from this present world.

He who has called us is faithful. Serve Him and Him alone all the days of your life.
